Education

The researchers of Migal constitute the academic backbone of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at Tel Hai Academic College. About 1000 B. SC. students and 30 M. Sc. students are enrolled in the Tel Hai science departments which include biotechnology, environmental sciences, nutrition sciences and food sciences.

Graduates of these departments have continued on to advanced degrees in all of the country's academic institutions (including the Weizmann Institute, the Technion, Hebrew University and others) and a variety of academic institutions abroad. The pride of the faculty is the Research M. Sc. Program in Biotechnology for which the acceptance criteria are some of the most challenging in the country.

Work on Masters theses can be carried out at Migal in the framework of the course of studies for a M. Sc. with Thesis in Biotechnology under the auspices of Tel Hai Academic College. This program, which is unique to the college and has been authorized by the Council for Higher Education, is based on the scientific infrastructures and the researchers at Migal who supervise the students and thus, contribute to the academic excellence of the program. Students participating in the program begin their research from the first semester of study. Completed theses are submitted at the end of the summer of the second year of studies. These must be equivalent in quality and in scope at very least to a scientific publication in a peer-evaluated journal.

Theses and dissertation work for advanced degrees (M.Sc., Ph.D. Post-Doctorate) can be carried out in cooperation with researchers from other institutions of higher learning (Hebrew University, Weizmann Institute, the Technion, Tel Aviv University, and others). In this case, the student benefits from having two academic advisors, one of the Migal researchers and the other, from the second institution. The recognition accorded by these academic institutions to the researchers and laboratories of Migal testifies to its academic and research excellence.

At present, the Masters program with thesis at Migal includes twenty students. Another ten students are completing their theses at Migal in the framework of other academic institutions. More than twenty additional students from a variety of academic institutions are working on their doctoral dissertations at Migal. Those who choose to conduct their post-doc work at Migal will, under certain conditions, join the Migal research staff. All students who are working on their theses, dissertations, or post-doc work at Migal receive scholarships or salaries to enable them to have the time for scientific work.
